Dear SEB-Team,
Describe the Bug
We sometimes receive an error message "Failed to start a new session" when starting the SEB. This only occurs sporadically. If you click OK and restart the SEB, it works.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a quiz
- Set SEB-Settings to "Yes - Use SEB client config"
- as a student start exams PC
- start SEB
- get error message - click on ok an restart SEB and now it works

Version Information
- OS: Windows 11 Education, Version 24H2, OS build 26100.6584, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.234.0
- SEB: 3.9.0.787
- Moodle: 4.5.5+ LTS
Additional Context
- we cannot reproduce this failure - it sometimes happens and sometimes not
- we are using a unique seb config file which is installed on every exams pc (if it is neccessary I can upload this file)
- we are using the old version 3.9.0 (since we are already setting up the exam PCs at the beginning of summer before the release of 3.10)
- perhaps it has something to do with the adjustments we made: Disable "Ignore SEB Service"; set SEB Service Policy to "allow to use SEB only with service"; set Kiosk Mode to "Disable Explorer Shell"
- perhaps in the log file you can see problems with "WindowsUpdateConfiguration" - maybe there are running Windows-11-update processes in the background which cause the problem?
- we have seen some similar issues here in the forum, but perhaps this case is new and other conclusions can be drawn from it.
