Using Textual on Linux console

Hi all - I think I know the answer to this, but we would like to use the fantastic Textual tool on a network appliance running RHEL9 that we're building and have questions.

We've run into degradation in appearance on a linux console vs. in a terminal application on a Gnome desktop. Also, things don't render well from a Windows machine in Putty either, but that's not really an issue as Windows terminal could be used and works perfectly.

I'm assuming this is b/c the console simply does not have the capabilities of the terminal application, and this is how it will be. But, perhaps there's something I'm missing or some alternate paths we could take to improve the appearance on the console?

When you say linux console you are referring the virtual terminals? ctrl-alt-f1-? non-xorg/xf86 environment?

this SO should guide you, the prob is the normal locale/encoding settings for some things do not include utf-8 supported glyphs or need explicit enabling. they also are very limited on the choice of fonts and very likely to not a whole ton of the unicode charsets textual/TUI's use normally.

sometimes its an escape sequence that needs to be passed, or a charmap options in your vt/vconsole/tty config that usually is handled by systemd or some etc/default/vconsole or who knows with all the distros...

Thanks @digitallyserviced - I'm looking into this. And yes, by console I mean the Linux virtual consoles accessible by the command you mentioned. I apprecieate the suggestions!
RHEL9 does have the config file /etc/vconsole.conf which appears to control at least some of these options.

I also have this use-case. Our application is a system configuration wizard that runs on first boot for our platform automation and... well... we don't really want to run in graphical mode if we can help it, since our app runs in k8s, we try and keep the underlying OS minimal for security purposes.
