no hint in empty contact search results when adding member to chat

but how?

the list opened when adding a member shows only members that have keys, it does not show email address

type the address manually into the search field.
there is no indication that addresses can't be added that way.

the normal workflow is to add a checkmark to the people i want to add, and then tap the checkmark at the top next to the search field to confirm the change.

following that, one gets the impression that adding people that are not in the list, should be possible by just typing the address into the field.

on the desktop i can see at least a gray ok button that can't be clicked.

since adding email addresses used to be supported, a clearer indication, possibly even a message with a link to documentation would be very helpful.

k, now i get it.

it is not only about email addresses, one could assume that typing even a name and hitting "OK" would add the person ;)

however, disabling is the "OK" checkmark is not really the way to go, as it confirms the selected members in the list - and the search is only a filter, hiding some items in the list.

to reduce confusion, and to make that clearer, however, instead of showing nothing, we should display "No results found for Klaus Stoertebeker" - i think, that would solve the issue as well, when seeing that and tapping "OK", it seems clear that this would not add anything.

@adbenitez this should probably go back to android then - the stargate is still here ;)
