sending request to backend with set_after_send breaks

in my handler function I'm adding a set_after_send closure to the request before sending it to the given backend.

When trying to write integration tests for this handler, I'm seeing this error:

HTTP caching API is not enabled; please contact support for help

How to fix this? Or is this a case that is unsupported right now?
