Is Ionic not truly "supported" for desktop usage?

This issue was locked and I could not respond, and I can't seem to see a way to create a discussion, so I am creating an issue. For me, this comment seems pretty wild, because I thought the whole selling point of Ionic is a write once for all platforms. If I would need to write the web/desktop in a different library, I would maybe be better off using something such as Expo, Flutter, etc. Can you clarify?

To give more context, I am also getting very frustrated with the same issue, where I want to constrain the width of the overall desktop size, but using ion-popover places it way off the edge, and I can't figure out the calculation for an exact negative offset to place it where it should be.

Thank you, I am a big fan of the framework but this has been a stumbling block for me, to limit the max width of the app while also having popovers displayed properly.

If anyone who is struggling with the same issue finds this, I THINK I figured out a solution that is working - instead of constraining the ion-app to a max-width, I constrained the IonReactRouter and my app header (essentially an ion-header el) and the popover displays where I want it to. So feel free to close this, but I am still curious of an answer, since it seems like this is the best "write once, run everywhere" framework out there.

My solution in this situation has been to place a wrapper div around each page on the app.

I wanted the app to be full width, and when I've used the sidebar menu, I want that to be in place properly, so I didn't mess with the overall ion-app width.

I just didn't want the content of the pages to get too wide where it looked sloppy, so I put a div around each page, set a max width and margin 0 auto css on that.

I actually did this initially to tidy up the tablet version of the app, but I've used the technique in webapps that I've built for clients that they wanted the option to convert into an app in the future.

The end result is that the content is then centered inside a max width container, and the "chrome" of the app (header and sidebar) is full width, which sounds like it would solve the issues you bumped into with popovers and such.
