make selection transparent?

Hi,

Is there a way to set certain residues selected in the selection option to be transparent?
I need to hide a part of the structure - my understanding is that currently we can't hide certain residues.
But if I could just make them transparent, it would also server the purpose.

I looked into something similar. As I understand, using a convenient interface is not currently possible, but the underlying Mol* has options to delete or make it transparent.

There is an implementation here that you can adapt for transparency even though I am currently struggling to do so #127.

Deletion might be easier to achieve based on my rudimentary understanding of Mol*, although I have no example.
