It happens in both Manjaro XFCE and Zenned (KDE), so it seems to be system independent.
Steps
With the display not calibrated, open an image which an embedded color profile on its EXIF metadata, like this one. Open it using a color managed application like Firefox, Chrome, GIMP (with color management enabled), or qview. You will see the right colors:
Calibrate the screen using whatever calibrations software. It can be displaycal or anything else, they same will happen. Alternative just load an existing color profile, like this one, using the method provided by your desktop environment for color management.
Open the image again. You will see that the colors are faded out:
Why is this?
Maybe the applications are wrongly assuming that the color profile provided by colord is a stock profile, like sRGB or P3, instead of the profile used for display calibration.
