Why are code-generated figures in Quarto treated as new column?

When I render this document, the slide title appears smaller than default and the code and the plot are split
into two different columns.

Shouldn't the standard behavior be to show them below each other?

How can I achieve this?

When creating slides, the pptx writer¹ chooses from a number of pre-defined layouts, based on the content of the slide:
