what happens to gas

In the beginning of lecture author said smth like: "While transferring money from one account to another some portion of gas being burnt making the number of transactions in network finite"
Later same author says while explaining all this gas fees that gas spent on transaction goes to some miners/validators/whatever

So my question is: what is true?

Does gas burn out of system during transactions or just goes to anoher person?

When you pay gas, part of it goes to validators as a reward, and part gets burned and is removed from circulation — so both are true.
