custom BOLT8 messages, LSP Spec Transport Layer (blip50)

Description

I am working on developing a plugin for the Bitcart software which uses Electrum to manage a lightning wallet. I would like to be able to lease liquidity from an LSP using LSPS7/BLIP-0057. This would require sending a custom message and getting a response from an external lightning node using a BOLT8 message.

Is there some way in the electrum console to send such a message and get a response?

You mean onion messages.
There is a command that is exposed in the console, see send_onion_message in electrum/commands.py

I don't think onion messages are involved. Looking at BLIP-50, the communication uses direct bolt-08 transports with a hardcoded msgtype:

I expect some plumbing for this would need to be added in lnmsg.py and lnwire/
