Thinking that it will be worth implementing these checks in python as in issue #666 and experimenting with them before committing to a way to do it in C++ |

Thinking about what it would take to build an "equilibrium state" check into the C++ code. This might help runtimes for calibration, as well as improving performance for regional runs.
