A guide for a quick start in local environment

Hi! I'd like to know if there is a guide to set up local environment to code.
I see there is an installer but it seems it only works in specific linux distros ubuntu and redhat. I'd like to know how it works and want to see what happens when i make a change in code.
Isn't there a way to start for this purpose? Sorry if i ask already answered question but i couldn't find similar one.
