TravelDiary is an Android application developed within the course of Design and Implementation of Mobile Applications at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. The goal of this course is to design an app for mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) by considering both the problem of designing the user experience, that is, the screens/pages used to interact with the user, and the problem of understanding the actual distribution of the components that constitute the application and their interactions. The main target for TravelDiary are, as the name itself suggests, travellers.
The app is intended to be a “virtual diary”, allowing users to manage their own world by adding, editing or removing visited places (countries or cities), displayed in a map as markers. When users add a new visited place, they can insert info on their journey (start and end date, description of their experience, images) and the app automatically generates a diary page. The app also allows users to follow other users, and view their World, Diary and Followers pages.
In addition to the aforementioned core features, the app provides the user with statistics about the countries and cities visited (percentages of countries visited for each continent, demographical, economical and geographical info). It also allows users to insert trips they did or plan to do in the future: a countdown timer shows the time left before the departure and push notifications act as reminders. Finally, a currency converter is also integrated within the app.
