Ace vRIP

Hello all,

I have some unfortunate news to share. I was approached by Riot back when I first released Ace, and we agreed to a call to discuss the future of Ace. During this call, which happened just a few hours ago, me and Riot agreed on some important points:

  • A third-party program running with full permissions that can automatically update is a tad bit unsafe.
  • All the features that Ace offers are either not really required (think of easy queue dodging, old IP/RP icons), or something that Riot might add later.
  • There is no viable way to prove that Ace will never be malicious or otherwise compromised.

Keeping these points in mind, we came to the shared agreement that Ace can not continue existing. Unfortunate as it is, Riot simply cannot give potentially unsafe code their blessing, and keeping the safety of their users in mind, they'd rather that Ace not exist at all. While developing Ace, I had considered all of these points, and thus this verdict was not unexpected for me. Ultimately, I feel like Riot is doing the responsible thing here by ensuring the safety of the majority, even if it means sacrificing Ace.

However, Ace did not go unnoticed. During the call, Riot acknowledged that many of the tweaks currently available do enhance usability, and that some of the tweaks will potentially go into the new client. To potentially accelerate this process, I have agreed to visit Riot HQ somewhere in the near future. While we don't yet know the exact details of the trip, I might end up working for Riot on the new client, which would mean that I can do what Ace did, but only officially.

What now?

As of right now, the following is going to happen:

  • I will push out a final update that disables all Ace plugins. If you are reading this from the changelog, it means that your Ace installation is now effectively the same as your normal installation.
  • I will remove all code from the Github repository, leaving the issues intact for future reference.
  • Riot will push out an update in 6.24 that will permanently disable Ace's method of injection, rendering it unworkable.

All of the 9319 users that ended up downloading either the Mac or Windows version of Ace, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You were all trusting (or dumb?) enough to install something that was made with the best intentions, but unfortunately had a little too much power.

So long and thanks for all of the fish,

  • molenzwiebel.

P.S.
If you want to just enjoy the game that we all love, hit me up on League and we can play a game some time. I am available as Yahoo Answers on EUW.

A quick word

Hello Ace users! Whew, what a release it was. When I made Ace, I never expected it to blow up this much. Since the initial release just a day ago, both me and contributors have been hard at work fixing issues and adding new content. While this patch adds a few small tweaks, it mainly consists of bugfixes.

Thank you for using Ace, and lets hope for a long and bright future.
Much <3, molenzwiebel.

btw, you should really check out our Discord if you haven't already done so!

Additions

The following plugins have been added since the initial release:

  • classic-currency (disabled by default): Replaces the new IP and RP textures with something a little more familiar:
    classic-currency
  • fancy-select (disabled by default): Implements a fan-made design for champion select. While it looks awesome
    fancy-select 1
it is also a bit buggy at times. Since we cannot easily test in champion select, the plugin will stay like this for now. Use on your own risk!
  • recently-played (disabled by default): Adds a new group in your friends list similar to the recent summoners tab in the old client. You can invite or view people from this list.
    recently-played
  • easy-queue-dodge (by @ZombieWizzard) (disabled by default): Adds a 'QUIT' button to any queue that allows you to dodge without closing the client. Keep in mind that you will still get a dodge timer and that you will still lose LP if playing ranked.

As already mentioned, all of these are disabled by default. Simply go into your Ace settings (next to the minimize button in the top right) and click on the respective 'Enable' button to enable said plugin. Upon saving, Ace will prompt you to restart to apply the changes.

As a sidenote, you are now also able to choose normal role icons for your champion groups:

Bugfixes

  • You are now properly able to accept the ready check if you had the Ace settings open when the queue popped.
  • Some summoner icon descriptions were the wrong way around. They have been corrected.
  • The 404 error that some people got when starting Ace should be fixed now. If you still encounter it after this patch, please let us know in the discord.

Known Bugs

  • Opening the Ace settings, then going to collections freezes the entire client. We aren't really sure if we are causing this, or if we are stumbling upon some bug that Riot created. Anyway, until we fix this, try to not combine editing settings with browsing your inventory. :)
  • The edit masteries panel in champion select is completely black in rare cases. Most of the time this can be fixed with a reload, which can be done by toggling a plugin off (don't forget to turn it back on later!). Please note that the champion select will continue while your client is reloading.

Ace v1.0.1

This release fixes several plugin loading issues:

  • Disabled plugins were incorrectly marked as errored.
  • Disabling a plugin that depended on settings would also disable settings, leaving you unable to re-enable said plugin.
