The passing of
-varand-var-fileflags has become too complicated due the recent early-initialisation feature of OpenTofu and ephemeral variables feature of Terraform. We already use some workarounds for cloud backends, and for state encryption variables when applying a saved plan.The workaround places any variables in auto loading
.tfvarsfiles, which are reliably loaded by the tool when needed. Let's just do this all the time to reduce complexity. This does have a downside that any parse errors for var-files will appear to come from a file with a slightly different name.This also means that the deprecated var input, which was directly translated into
-varflags, is being removed.
